How to beta test your apps

How can I beta test my apps?

Resolution

You can beta test your Android, Galaxy, or Gear apps and their in-app items:

  • During initial registration before normal release:
    • Register your first version and beta release it to the beta testers.
    • You can change your beta version due to beta test feedback and results.
    • You then normally distribute your latest version to the public.

  • After normal distribution:
    • Register a beta version and beta release them to the beta testers.
    • Your previous version continues to be normally distributed.
    • You can change your beta version due to beta test feedback and results.
    • You then normally distribute your latest version to the public, which removes the previous version from distribution.

You can conduct two types of beta tests:

  • Open beta test
    • Android apps without in-app items.
    • Available only for the test period you specify.
    • Any number of beta testers who follow a beta test download URL that you send to them.
    • Beta testers download apps for free and can send you feedback.

  • Closed beta test
    • Android apps, Galaxy watch face and watch apps, and Gear watch face and watch apps, with or without in-app items.
    • Available only for the test period you specify.
    • Up to 1000 beta testers who you register, and who follow a beta test download URL that you send to them
    • Beta testers:
      • Download apps for free and can send you feedback.
      • Can get in-app items either for free or by actually purchasing them (to beta test purchase functionality).
