Beta Tester Guide

Be the first one to experience unreleased versions of Android and Gear apps and improve them.

If the person setting up a beta test (beta test conductor) selects you to be a beta tester, you can test the beta version of Android apps, Gear apps, and Gear watch face apps, and their in-app items (when offered), before they are officially released in Galaxy Apps. You can share your thoughts (good and bad features, and improvement) to help roll out a high-quality app.

How you can beta test depends on the beta app, whether or not it has in-app items, and the type of beta test:

  • Open beta test for Android apps without in-app items.
  • Closed beta test for Android apps, Gear apps, and Gear watch face apps, with or without in-app items.

You will not have to pay to download the beta app (even when it is a paid app). When the beta app offers in-app items, your beta test conductor will determine if you can get in-app items for free, or if you must pay for them (in order to beta test in-app item purchase features).

Be a Beta Tester

You must:

  • Have a supported Samsung Android mobile device (to test Android and Gear beta apps), have a supported Samsung Gear device (to test Gear beta apps), and be in a supported country.
Your beta test conductor will make sure of this.
  • For Gear beta app testing, you must pair your Android device with your Gear device.
  • Have the minimum required version of Galaxy Apps installed on your Android device.
You can make sure of this by starting up Galaxy Apps before downloading the beta app.
  • Be selected as a beta tester.
    • For open beta tests, you need an email address and provide it to your beta test conductor.
    • For closed beta tests, you need a Samsung account (Get a Samsung Account) and provide it to your beta test conductor.

Testing a Beta App

Before the beta test, your beta test conductor will set up the beta test, coordinate with you, and send you the following details:

  • Start and end dates and type (open or closed) of the beta test
  • When you can download the beta app
  • URL where you can download the beta app
  • Whether or not you can get in-app items for free
  • Information about the beta test:
    • Test-specific information (for example, particularly important app features to test, test scenarios, and test limitations)
    • Possible testing after the beta app download time period:
      • Whether or not beta testing will still be conducted
      • Whether or not, and when, you can get additional in-app items
  • The address where you can send your ideas and improvements to your beta test conductor
