iOS Limitations and Basics

Watch applications are subject to the following limitations when their watch is connected to an iOS device:

  • Companion apps cannot run when their watch is connected to an iOS device.

Companion apps are composed of a watch app and a host device app that exchange data through one of the following protocols: Samsung Accessory Protocol (SAP), In-App Purchase (IAP), or Remote App Control. Android host apps cannot run on iOS devices.

However, the connection between an iOS device and a watch is based on Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), which has a lower bandwidth than Android devices. This restricts the communication channel between the devices at the platform level. Therefore, standalone watch apps that need higher bandwidths (for example, audio/video streaming and map-related apps) may not work properly when their watch is connected to an iOS device.

Standalone watch apps that need higher bandwidths will work properly when their watch is in the Work without Phone Connection (WPC) mode, because it is directly connected through Wi-Fi, 3G, or Long Term Evolution (LTE), depending on the watch.

Watch screen capture

From a Samsung watch, you can capture and review any watch screenshot from your own watch apps, other watch apps, and the Tizen Wearable platform. After transferring them to a connected watch-compatible Android smartphone (including any Samsung smartphone), you can download screenshot files and use them for your app development and marketing purposes. You can also delete any captured screenshot.

 To capture a screenshot:

  • Navigate to the screen to be captured.
  1. Press and hold the power (lower) button 
  2. Swipe the display from left to right.

To review captured screenshots:

  1. Press the power button to enter the app tray.
  2. Use the bezel to navigate to the gallery. Tap Gallery
  3. In the gallery home screen:
    • To navigate to a captured screenshot, rotate the bezel.
    • To select, tap [Screen Image].
  4. To select another screenshot:
    • To see full screen views, rotate the bezel.
    • To return to the gallery home screen, press the Back button.

To download or delete one captured screenshot:

  1. In the gallery, navigate to and tap a captured screenshot to select it.
  2. To download and use the selected screenshot:
    1. Tap the More Options Icon.
    2. Rotate the bezel to select Send to phone. Tap Send to phone
    3. If necessary, connect to the phone:
      1. Position the phone near the watch.
      2. In the Connect via Bluetooth. screen, tap Checkmark Icon.
    4. Transfer screenshot from the Android phone to a computer:
      1. Connect the Android phone to a computer.
      2. In the computer file manager, transfer the screenshot from the phone to the computer storage.
  3. To delete the selected screenshot:
    1. In the gallery, tap the More Options Icon.
    2. Tap Delete.
    3. In the Delete 1 photo? screen, tap Checkmark Icon.

To download or delete many captured screenshots:

  1. Select the screenshots:
    1. In the gallery, navigate to and tap a captured screenshot to select it.
    2. Press and hold the screen.
    3. In the Captured Screenshot Gallery:
      1. Swipe left or right to navigate to each captured screenshot.
      2. Tap an image to select it (surrounded by a blue circle); tap again to unselect it.
        Note: The number of currently selected screenshots is displayed.
         
  2. To download and use the selected screenshots:
    1. Tap More Options Icon.
    2. Tap Send to phone.
    3. If necessary, connect to the phone:
      1. Position the phone near the watch.
      2. In the Connect via Bluetooth. screen, tap Checkmark Icon.
    4. Transfer screenshot from the Android phone to a computer:
      1. Connect the Android phone to a computer.
      2. In the computer file manager, transfer the screenshot from the phone to the computer storage.
  3. To delete the selected images:
    1. Tap Delete.
    2. In the Delete [#] photos? screen, tap Checkmark Icon.

Get logs from watches (Tizen OS)

You may need to get system log files to analyze data for debugging or troubleshooting. To get system log files from wearable devices on Tizen OS, perform the following steps:
 

  1. Launch the Phone app:

  2. Launch Log Dump:
    1. Enter *#9900#:

       

    2. As soon as you enter *#9900#, a Log Dump screen with multiple options appears.
  3. Select and press Run LOG_DUMP:

  4. When Run LOG_DUMP completes, connect the watch to your Tizen Studio through Wi-Fi using the instructions located here.
  5. In the Connection Explorer in Tizen Studio, expand the device, and navigate to /opt/usr/media/SLP_debug. Look for the log_timestamp.tar.gz file.

  6. Select the log file, right-click, and click Pull the file. Save the file in your system.
